Do You Crave Extra Time?
By Elinor Stutz

Managing your time better will help you find extra hours in the week. These extra hours may be used to complete the projects which you have been postponing. The easiest steps to take are:

1. Give higher priority to projects that contribute most to your bottom-line
2. Prioritize projects that will most effectively help you achieve your 12 month stretch goal
3. Answer email only at specific times during the day
4. Earmark new phone calls and follow-up calls at specific times each day
5. Provide realistic guidelines for emergency requests

By always focusing on your bottom-line, you will know which projects and tasks need to be completed first and not lose sight of moving your business forward. You will begin to minimize wasted moments each day. Your year-long stretch goal should always be on the top of your mind. When you work on this goal daily, you will ensure achieving it in 9-12 months.

Do not allow yourself to be tempted to peek at your email continually throughout the day. It is a tremendous time waster. Arrange your window so that you have an abbreviated reading pane. Between the pane and the title of the email you should be able to quickly recognize which email may be eliminated without further reading. With the remaining email, take action first on the ones that will lead to future business.

In order to grow your business, you must dedicate yourself to performing two critical tasks on a daily basis and they are initiating new calls every day and making follow-up calls every day. Set a minimum of one hour aside each day to make these calls. The more time you can devote to both types of calls, the more quickly your business will grow.

Many people complain about interruptions dominating their day, and the inquiring parties demand their projects be completed in short and unreasonable timeframes. You have to take the lead on these by countering with timeframes that are reasonable and with which you can easily work.

The key to growing your business is working on the strategies that will help you advance and managing your time wisely. As you determine areas in which you are not an expert or do not enjoy specific tasks, hire others to help you complete those. Be firm on the extraneous requests and remain focused on your goals. The discipline described above will help you find more hours in the week which in turn may be used to grow your business further. All combined, you will advance more quickly and easily and be glad you paid attention to managing your time wisely.
